Coffee in Kelowna - Dark roast

coffee-roasting-kelowna-local-chemist-05

Here in Kelowna, we have quite a few coffee roasters who actually roast their own beans. There are some that claim to roast their own here in the Okanagan, and some who claim to actually roast them themselves, but that is a whole other blog post for some other time.

Some have their own store fronts and some sell their beans at local farmers markets etc. I have had some great chats with the local roaster owners about the local coffee scene and who they roast for.

There's those who want to roast for the darker roast type of crowd. These groups are the ones who have been trained by the green mermaid that the only way to drink coffee is if it's dark roast. There is a market for that for sure and it takes a long long time to sway this crowd from anything. But you won't find dark and oily beans from us or most specialty coffee roasters these days. And I mean the dark oily stuff. When it comes to our darkest option, our EightTrack , this coffee is roasted just past our medium roast profile ( our Bars ) , but it is a solid profile that allows you to use it for espresso, brew, filter, pour over, aero press, french press….you get the idea.

Dark roast doesn't have to be dark and oily. It CAN look like a medium roast but has the ability to pull out those dark roast type flavours. Our EightTrack has been a fan favourite since we came out with it and we are so glad to get more and more folks use to it!

Dark and oily beans can back up your grinder and even cause mold to grow inside your grinder. Who wants that?

We roast this coffee right here in Kelowna BC, Canada on a 100% electric and zero emissions coffee roaster called a Bellwether. If you have any further questions about how we roast and what we roast, please send us a message or contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
